Tag and ping for free

Tag and Ping, Google Analytics, Micro-Dissecting Logs, Visual PageRank...

What does all those topics have in common?

No, I haven't gotten into the happy-pill jar, just in case you're wondering! What does all those topics have in common? They are all marketing tactics or strategies I am presently using to promote and propel my sites into the ever increasing, all encompassing Internet stratosphere.

Let's face it, there are countless marketing methods, tricks, tips, strategies you can use to give your site an edge over the competition. And yes, there are many marketing secrets left to be told. More being born each day. Countless secrets most of us will never discover, let alone understand.

But what you have to understand, each webmaster or marketer employs a whole set of techniques to promote and propel their sites. Each marketing system is different, each one can develop into a complex creature slowly weaving its presence into the fabric of the world wide web. Might sound a bit fantastic, but it is nevertheless true.

Also know each website on the Internet has its own unique linking structure, connections, keywords, traffic... its own unique genetic link-code. Why should da Vinci have all the fun!

Each webmaster, whether they realize it or not, creates this unique linking structure for each site they build. From day one, when the first link is placed on their site -- this complex marketing structure is put into motion. What makes some sites succeed, what makes them become successful automatic profit generating machines... while others fail? That is the real question. That is the only real secret you need to know.

Of course, a site's content plays a major role, but even two sites with more or less the same content will have two totally different dynamic linking structures created. One may succeed, the other fail.

So in this line of thinking, I thought I would tell you some of the marketing strategies I use for my sites and also reveal what I believe to be the underlying factor that is key to the whole shebang. Tactics that will promote and propel your site into the center of the world wide web. Are you Ready? Here goes:

Tag and Ping

A few years back, it was all blog and ping. This technique really worked for a while. You wrote a keyword rich entry into one of your blogs and then pinged this entry with one of the many blogging directories or sites like MyYahoo to get the information spidered and indexed. The search engines wised up quickly and it no longer works as well.

Now, you will hear the magic words 'Tag and Ping' till you're sick of hearing them. This is a method I have been using for some time. It's basically the same thing, only you're using the tag or tagging system of such sites as Technorati to draw attention to your tag or keyword.

It has a special application for keyword marketing and is very effective for getting traffic and links to your keywords. One simple way to use tags with Technorati:

<*a href="http://technorati.com/tag/Computers" rel="tag">Computers<*/a> (remove asterisks in actual code)

Or if your blogging software supports categories; this will be recognized by Technorati as a tag.

Since this is a relatively new way of marketing your site, expect it to work for a little while. Until the spammers get in and ruin it, like they did to blog comments.

Google Analytics

This is a free program from Google that every webmaster should be using. If you don't use it -- get it! www.google.com/analytics

Google Analytics will give you priceless information about your sites, your links, your visitors and your marketing. It will show you which pages are working, which pages are not working. It will tell you which pages holds your visitor's attention, which pages lead to your marketing goals/sales...in other words it will tell you how effective your site is at getting the job done.

The more knowledge you have about your site, the more successful it will be. A lot of times, being a success is finding/tracking the one method or technique that works and repeating it again and again on your other pages or sites. Google analytics will help you find the successful techniques on your site. Then you have to run with them.

Micro-Dissecting Logs

Another valuable source of information about your site is in your daily logs. If you're not dissecting or micro inspecting your daily hosting logs, you're not realizing the full potential of your site. Your site's logs holds the keys to your site's success, it holds the information that will make your site profitable or more profitable.

It will give you information on your site, it will also give you information on your site's visitors. The real key to Internet marketing is finding out what exactly your visitors are looking for and then giving it to them. Find out the exact keywords your visitors type into search engines, then supply the answer or solution on your site. It is as simple as that -- give your visitors what they want.

Whether it is more information on 'the nature of the universe' or where they can purchase the cheapest laptop? Just supply the answer to their question. Your daily logs will give you this information, read them, dissect them and most of all use them to give your visitors what they want. Make your content relevant.

Buying Links

This marketing technique has mixed reviews, many marketers use it -- many discourage it.

You have to be very careful when buying links, know exactly what you're buying and be wary of the search engines who may look down upon this practice. Don't buy any links from link farms, or sites which have been banned from Google. Stay clear of any black hat tricks or methods, play fair and you will win in the long run.

To me, buying links is just another way of advertising your site. If your site or online business is successful, naturally you're going to put some of your profits back into promoting or advertising your site. One way to do this is through buying links on high ranked pages/sites: PR5 or over.

I recently bought my first text link!

It's something I rarely do, mainly because my article writing produces many one-way links back to my site. However, there was one site I just wanted to get a link from, and if it means I have to pay $7 a month for the link, so be it.

Currently the page has a PR0! Why would I buy a link on a PR0 page -- don't worry, still haven't gotten into that happy-pill jar. Because it's a very new popular page on a very popular new site. The site is www.iwebtool.com and it has an Alexa ranking under 2000. The site is about a year old! The page itself holds what I believe will be a very popular webmaster tool that shows you visually all the PR rankings on any webpage on the net. Visual PageRank.

In other words, just type in any url and it will show you visually all the Google PR rankings for all the links on that page, internal links and external links. Valuable information any webmaster or marketer can use. Besides, that page has a cool factor which in my opinion will propel it to a very high PR ranking in the future. There are already a few pages on this site with a PR6 ranking, but all those links have been sold. Once this new page was created, I jumped at a chance to get a link there on that site.

Other places to purchase links:
www.linkhaul.com
www.linkadage.com
www.textlinkbrokers.com

One more Marketing Technique

There is one more important marketing method that makes all the above techniques pale in comparison. This simple technique is article marketing. Write simple informative articles on the subject of your site. Submit these keyword rich articles to online article directories like ezinearticles.com and place links back to your site in the resource box at the end of each article.

Article writing is one of the best methods to market your site, you will be surprised at the effectiveness of this simple marketing technique. Done correctly, it can be your most powerful marketing tool.

Information Core.

Did you get the big picture? Did you get the underlying theme running through all these Internet marketing techniques? The common thread that holds everything together? What makes them effective?

That common thread is Information.

Information runs the web. It is the center. Dispensing this information is a complex system consisting of search engines, directories, websites, blogs... you must entangle and entwine your site as deeply as you can into this information process.

That's why article writing is such an effective marketing tool, it strikes at the center of this essential process. It places your content and your site right in the middle of all this exchange of information. The more relevant your content, the closer you will get to the real action and the more popular your site will become.

Remember, all these marketing techniques are not really secrets, just effective ways you can promote and propel your site or sites closer to the information core that runs the web. The thread that binds everything together. The closer you can get your site to this center, the better it will flourish. The more you can entangle your site into the whole mix.... search engines, directories, links to popular sites... the more successful your site will become.

All these marketing techniques: tag and ping, article marketing, buying links... will help place your site into this information mix. Likewise, Google Analytics, micro-dissecting your logs, and visual pagerank are all information gathering methods every webmaster should use to make this journey easier and quicker. Knowledge is the only real marketing tool you need.

So go 'Tag and Ping' all you like but realize it is just the latest in a long line of marketing techniques you should be using to promote and propel your site closer towards the one common thread that really matters.

Information.

Gbuy from Google

I'm very pleased to hear about the introduction of Gbuy. Since I have a wealth of personal negative experience with Paypal, I can state with some assurance that they are a bunch of f---wits who behave in an extremely adversarial fashion towards their customers, and I'd be delighted to see Google shove Paypal out of the market in internet payments. Full story on Gbuy from Forbes.

25 killer blogging tips

With so many blogs being created every day, it’s a mystery to many bloggers how to make their blog stand out. There are many types of blogs or purposes for blogs and a certain number of tactics are applicable to just about all of them, so here is a “short” list of tips for marketing and optimizing a blog:

Decide on a stand alone domain name www.myblog.com or directory of existing site www.mysite.com/blog. Sub domain is also an option blog.mysite.com. Avoid hosted services that do not allow you to use your own domain name!

Obtain and install customizable blog software - WordPress and Moveable Type are my favorites.
Customize blog look and feel templates - aka design.

Research keywords and develop a glossary - Keyword Discovery, WordTracker, SitePoint, SEOBook Keyword Research.

Optimize the blog:
* Template optimization - RSS subscription options, social bookmark links, HTML code, Unique title tags, URLs, Sitemap* Add helper plugins specific to WordPress or MT* Create keyword rich categories (reference your keyword glossary)

Enable automatic trackback and ping functionality.

Create Feedburner Pro account and enable feed tracking.

Setup Google acount for Sitemap, validate and prep for future submission.

Identify authoritative blogs, web sites and hubs for outbound resource links and blogroll.

Format archived posts, related posts.

Enable statistics for tracking - Performancing, Google Analytics, ClickTracks.

Submit RSS feed and Blog URL to prominent RSS and Blog directories / search engines.

Engage in an ongoing link building campaign.

If podcast or video content are available, submit to Podcast and Vlog directories.

Submit blog url to paid directories with categories for blogs - Yahoo, BOTW, bCentral, WOW, JoeAnt.

Optimize and distribute a press release announcing blog.

Request feedback or reviews of your blog in relevant forums, discussion threads. If you have a resourceful post that will help others, point to it.

Research and comment on relevant industry related blogs and blogs with significant centers of influence.

Post regularly. If it’s a news oriented blog, 3-5 times per day. If it’s an authoritative blog, 3-5 times per week, but each post must be unique and high value.

Monitor inbound links, traffic, comments and mentions of your blog - Google Alerts, Technorati, Blogpulse, Yahoo News, Ask Blogs and Feeds.

Always respond to comments on your blog and when you detect a mention of your blog on another blog, thank that blogger in the comments of the post.

Make contact with related bloggers on AND offline if possible.

When making blog posts always cite the source with a link and don’t be afraid to mention popular bloggers by name. Use keywords in the blog post title, in the body of the post and use anchor text when you link to previous posts you’ve made.

Use social networking services, forums and discussion threads to connect with other bloggers. If they like your stuff, they will link to you.

Remember when web sites were a new concept and the sage advice to print your web address everywhere you print your phone number? The same advice applies for your blog.

Remember, be relentless !

Be relentless

There is an unlimited amount of time that can be wasted in procrastinating. The big difference between winners and losers in life could be defined in terms of action vs inaction.

Most wannabe millionaires sit around all day, drinking coffee and surfing the net looking for the latest marketing ideas which they can implement in their own business.

The fact is, they usually spend more time looking for ideas than they do implementing those ideas or their own marketing strategies.

The most successful are those who put their money where there mouth is. They act!

Every day should be the start of a new marketing idea or innovative strategy. To put this philosophy to work, it is essential that you have a daily marketing plan worked out. It is vital that the tasks are completed to schedule.

Create a wallchart or another visual reminder !

Dont ever give up. Be relentless !

Killer traffic building tips

There's lots of ways to get more links. All the good ones involve work, but stick at it and it can be done:

Request a listing at dmoz.org

Search Yahoo or Google for "keywords add url" or "my industry submit site" to find related directories

Look for related businesses that you aren't in direct competition with, call or email them personally and ask about swapping links. If you're a hotel, do this with local restaurants and museums. If you're a bank, swap links with realtors and auto dealers.

Write articles (with embedded links) and send them out as press releases. Some will show them on their site.

Ask all your friends. All of them.

Sometimes forums (not this one) or blogs let you add a signature with your link. Participate meaningfully and this is tolerated. These may not be the best links, but they can help, especially as you control the link text.

Become an active regular participant in a forum on your subject. Reply to posts, be seen as an expert on the subject. You'll make friends amongst the other participants who will then be interested in helping you and linking to you.

Learn to use the forum's codes so you can put deep links to your interior pages that answer detailed questions. Use good keyworded link text. Should look like the next bullet:

Use Yahoo's site explorer to research who your competition has links from, call them up and ask if you can swap links too.

When you're bored working on your site, browse the web looking over what the competition has done. Look for chances to get links from them, or follow where they're linking to, many of which pages will be good places to ask for links.

Be patient. This takes a while. Be tolerant, many people will be agreeable but not get around to it. Remind politely after a while, but if they still don't get to it, forget them and keep going. I've seen friends get all wound up because someone has too much of a life to get around to updating their website. Just find new sites to ask.

Try to get the attention of local media. Getting picked up by a newspaper, even an "alternative" one can get you some very valuable links. Get interviewed, tell a colorful story.

Offer to write articles for other sites that could use them. Embed good links within them. Associations and other authorities often desperately need good material and have great rank with search engines. You could be their best friend, and vice versa.

Be a pal. Offer to create basic websites for a few friends. Now that they love you, they won't mind a link or two back to such a nice guy (or gal).

Get to know some bloggers. They're becoming a major linking force. Tell them a colorful story so they can write something good about you.

Create useful content on your site that others interested in the subject will want to link to on their own. You'll start to get links you don't know about until the referrals show up in your log.

Best of all, create link bait: a feature or function so useful to your audience that people just have to link to it. This is usually interactive. If you're into kites, a wind forecaster. Do pharmaceuticals? If they enter all their drugs, it finds any possible interactions. Baseball cards? A value projector of what cards for drafted (but not yet playing) players cards will be worth in 5 years. Who can resist checking, even if future results are not guaranteed?

Try being controversial. If you write why it's best to retire on $7 dollars a month for life, all the finance blogs are going to make fun of you with links to your opinion.

Keep trying. Keep asking. Stick at it.
Then one day, others will be saying how it's no fair you're at the top just because you've been around a while. They won't understand it was hard work, and they won't think it's fair they don't rank at the top just because they had the clever idea of creating a new site.

Of course, if you'd like to save time you could employ experts like ourselves to carry out your traffic building work.

Best wishes

Increase your traffic through blogging

A few months ago, I began reading about RSS feeds and how the main search engines absolutely loved them, because they provided the search engines with nice fresh content for them. People with blogs were submitting their RSS feeds to yahoo to index and forums were beginning to do the same and people were beginning to realise that if you had pages from your site in RSS feeds, they would get indexed very quick.

I was one of the first to start submitting my RSS feeds from my blogs and forums to literally whoever would take the link and use it to get me more traffic, when suddenly it hit me in the face. I was checking all the major search engines to see how many pages I had indexed and what their page rank was when I realised that MSN had introduced RSS Feed outputs into their search results and yahoo were looking for as many RSS feeds as they could get hold of to feed their search results with fresh content.

So, I went to msn and entered into the search

I then went to Yahoo, opened an account and went to the MyYahoo page. This page is basically a customised page where you can customise its content by setting up RSS feeds for fresh content to be imported into the page. So you can look at the latest news from whichever sources you want and keep an eye on your forum posts, blog post, etc, all on one page. However, when you submit RSS feeds to your account, they also get indexed quick.

On this page, I submitted the two RSS feeds I had got hold of from MSN, along with the RSS feeds generated by my forum and blog and this meant that yahoo was indexing static pages i.e. pages were which were not really fresh content as if they were fresh content pages.

Within a few weeks, the number of indexed pages I had in google for my site and related to my alias increased from around 500 to around 50,000. I was getting more traffic and therefore money from my sites and search engines had a higher coverage for my alias.

success in blogging starts here

Since Blogging has become popular and useful to marketers today, here are few more ways that may be useful for promoting your blog:

1. Commenting on other people's blogs : Comment fairly on other people's (similar to your's); Make sure you post relavant and useful comments, otherwise you'll be considered spam. Commenting helps you get : Spiders, New visitors and useful backlinks.

2. List your blog on blogtopsites (Google hasn't considered these linkfarms yet). May get you new visitors and SE placements.
www.blogtospsites.com .

3. Allowing commenting on your blog and inviting new users to contribute. This is a basic use within a blog itself. Comments help give your blog a certain popularity and maybe an identity. Blogs such as Wordpress and Blogger allow multiple users to contribute to a blog. However this may take time as you may have to wait till your blog gets some traffic.

4. Try traffic exchange for blogs such as www.blogxchange.com (similar to trafficswarm); I'am not keen on it.

5.Posting reviews of products that may help your visitors. Blogs not only allow you to give your personal opinion, thier main flexibilty lies in using other people's articles, reviews etc without copyright issues (Complete article and review duplication is harmful though; You may add your personal opinion on someone's articles; Usually they'll be happy because your sending them traffic)

6. If you're using blogs like Wordpress, several plugins (extensions) allow you to aggregate RSS feeds, Easy insertion and promotion of affiliate links etc. So consider changing over to Wordpress or MovableType over from Blogger-type blogs.

7. Use Services like www.feedburner.com which allow your Blog's feed to be easily distributed in a ready format to your site users. They also allow email subscription of your feeds.

8. Another way of posting fresh content is by using News sources such as News sections of Google, MSN, Yahoo etc. If you pick up an article fast, you may rank well in the SEs. You can also pick up fresh news from ww.PRweb.com or submit your press-releases which helped me getting some traffic from SEs (for my food blog)

9. Hosting your own blog is a better option (or use a host which give you free or cheap PHP hosting). Since many blogs are based on PHP, you are easily in control in case you want to expand your Blog.

10. Sometimes, if you look up your server stats, you may find that visitors may have landed up in a totally different post then they intended (from the Search Engines). try fixing up your Permalinks or post a new post related to the search term. For example people might have searched for " sports trivia " and somehow they landed up in your post " Sports in England" , where you have nothing to offer in "sports trivia". Then write a new post on sports trivia and make sure you link to this post from the "sports in England" post

11. Apart from regular adsense and other ads, you can opt for Ads for your feeds such as :

www.feeddirect.com
www.kanoodle.com

Though not popular, these ads allow you to monetize your RSS feeds.

12. For clickbank prducts you can try www.affiliatesensor.com which allow you to display contextual Clickbank ads (with or without images).

13. A popular way of promtion is through services like technorati which allow users to find your blog or post through tags. For example you've made a post on Traveling to the Vatican and tagged it as "Travel to Vatican", tecnorati may help people find your blog post on that topic. Technorati is a definite and a must-use option for any blogger. www.technorati.com

14. Social Bookmarking is another must-have for a blogger. Allowing people to Bookmark your Blog and specific posts help spread your blog's popularity. Social bookmarking sites are also a nice way to get many visitors fast to your site.

www.digg.com
www.furl.com
http://del.icio.us

Apart from social bookmarking these sites ( Digg and Furl) allow you to submit "stories" or to specific articles on your blog which may bring immediate traffic.

15. Some ways, other than news sources, to get articles are RSS feeds ffrom other sites/blogs. RSS feed search engines like

www.syndic8.com, www.pheeds.com allow you to get RSS feeds from million os sites.

16. If posting directly to blogs using thier GUI seems difficult to you try tools like Wbloggar ( free ) or Post2blog ( trial)
that allow you post, edit and retrieve to one or many of your blogs right from your desktop. This is helpful if you post many articles a day and hate to use your Blogger's interface. Post2Blog even allows you to add adsense and chitka codes to your ads.
www.wbloggar.com
www.post2blog.com

17. Sometimes your Sever Stats (Keywords, referrers) may give you valuable info on search terms that you may have improvised on. In such cases do a research for those terms and make new posts.

18. Some Plugins (Wordpress) allow you display Popular posts, related posts etc. These may help keep the Stickiness to your blog

19. Also make use of tradtional Link exchanges like : www.linkmarket.com and www.gotlinks.com (I think now they are a paid service). Even though some may not find this useful, Search engines and people may find you through these directories.

20. Sites like www.blogexplosion.com allow traffic exchanges. members of this service are required to surf other member blogs before they earn credits. These credits can then be used for Posting free ads on member blogs for a particular time-period.

21. Linking to other blogs can be made easier with www.blogrolling.com which allow you to easily add and manage links.

22. You may try for a blogger award from sites like www.bloggies.com ( a private awardee). These may make you famous (If you win ) and more popular. Alternatively if money is lying in your bank sponsor an award and be famous .

23. Another alternative to adsense is www.blogads.com. This is gaining popularity among bloggers and may provide you with additional monetizing opps.

24. Podcasting and Videoblogging are extras that you may use to enhance popularity (though I don't use them). Sites like www.youtube.com allow you to upload videos and then directly embed them in your blog using thier code.

25. Scripts like MagpieRSS, CARP RSS, FeedforALL allow you display other sites feed or feeds in a search engine friendly format. Helpful if you want additional content to supplement yours.

magpierss.sourceforge.net

www.feedforall.com

http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/

26. Using Photo hosting services like www.Flickr.com (Yahoo) may save a lot of your bandwith ( If you're hosting your own blog). Wordpress and MovableType Blogs provide plugins which allow easy photo posting Through Flickr.

27. Though Pinging ( Announcing to the world when you've posted a new article) is part of many blogging platforms some don't offer that facility.

www.pingomatic.com(only pinging) and www.feedburner.com (pinging and many other features) offer you just that.

28. Stickiness to your blog may be improved by : Quizzes , Polls and other such fun-stuff. People may atleast be willing to play and have fun even though they didn't find what they were looking for.

29. Categorization of Posts (offered by many Blog softwares except Blogger) help vistors and SEs find relavant topics easily. If you 're using blogger consider switching over to Wordpress or Movabletype

30. www.weblogsinc.com which is a huge company running a blognetwork on different topics, accept Bloggers and content writes to write articles for thier blogs or allow you to run your own blogs. You're paid to write good articles. Apart from getting good publicity you also get good traffic and get paid fot that.

31. Last but not the least and the most important is CONTENT which keeps people coming over to blogs again and again.

The Rich Jerk Review

Wouldn't it be nice to sit in an enormous mansion, with a garage full of exotic sports cars, looking down your nose at everyone else while you sit and make millions doing practically nothing?

That is just a day in the life of The Rich Jerk, a self-made millionaire who is now offering his advice to anyone, for a nominal fee. Of course, there are literally thousands of so-called internet 'experts' who are promising you thousands or even millions of dollars. Obviously, 99% of these sites/books are scams. They are filled with worthless or out of date information that is completely useless. Trust me, I have wasted my share of money on these 'Get Rich Quick' scams. The real question is, does The Rich Jerk deliver what he promises?

We were very skeptical at best after hearing of this book. Could it really be possible that there was a legitimate program in a market filled with scam artists? After purchasing the book, we were even more skeptical, it was barely forty pages long! Could it really be this easy? When we began reading the book, we were complete shocked. The jerk definitely knows what he is talking about.

We loved his no-nonsense approach as he packed each chapter full of information that YOU can use to make money online. The ideas that the jerk lays out for you are original and effective. There is no filler content in this book. It is packed from beginning to end with content that you can use.

You can easily see how The Rich Jerk transformed himself to an average every day joe to a self made millionaire. He may be a jerk, but he knows how to make money - with minimal effort. Each chapter covers completely a completely different method. You could make a very nice income just using the information covered in the first chapter, let alone the other nine.

Here is a brief summary of what is covered:
Chapter 1: Creating an Affiliate Network that Sells like Crazy
Chapter 2: Unique Search Engine PPC Strategies - That Kill your Competition
Chapter 3: Search Engine Optimization Strategies
Chapter 4: Selling Your Own Information Product
Chapter 5: Buying Wholesale and Selling on Ebay
Chapter 6: Website you can Make Profitable Right Now
Chapter 7: Other Online Ventures to Consider
Chapter 8: Supplemental Info for Beginners
Chapter 9: Quality Products/Services

We Highly Recommend these simple straighforward strategies. We personally have made over one thousand dollars in just my first week of putting these concepts to work. There is no question that The Rich Jerk is the best eBook in this genre. Do not waste your money on other scammers promising you the world. You can access the jerk's website by clicking here.
